We are the Black Advocacy Coalition a black-led non-profit organization.
BACupNorth (Black Advocacy Coalition upNorth) is a Black-led not for profit advocacy organization based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, dedicated to fighting for the rights, equity, and inclusion of the Black community in Canada’s North. Committed to racial equality and social justice, BACupNorth works to create safe and empowering Black spaces while addressing systemic barriers affecting the community.
Our initiatives focus on mental health, capacity building, education, and civic engagement, ensuring that Black voices are heard and represented in decision-making processes. Through events like Black History Month celebrations and year-round programming, we promote awareness of Black history, culture, and contributions while fostering unity, empowerment, and meaningful opportunities for Black individuals in Yellowknife and beyond.
OUR MISSION
End all forms of racism, racial injustice, and barriers that perpetuate inequity for Black people, specifically within law enforcement, justice, healthcare, housing, education, research, and media.
Work actively with Indigenous organizations and other allies to promote equity
Promote and amplify the impact of Black individuals, businesses and organizations established in northern Canada.
Advocate for inclusive spaces and opportunities for Black voices and perspectives at all levels of decision making in both public and private sectors.
Demand accountability and transparency from individuals in positions of power and leadership in both government and corporate entities.

Advocacy Initiatives
Work with policymakers and organizations to address systemic inequalities and improve access to resources for Black individuals and families in the North.
Community Programs
Provide tailored support such as mental health workshops, educational initiatives, and entrepreneurship training.
Cultural Celebrations
Organize events like Black History Month, Emancipation Day, and other cultural programs to highlight and preserve the rich heritage of Black Canadians.
